Benjamin Calypso Tomorrow!

Hello all! It's your choreographer Ms. Mason with a post about our first dance rehearsal.

First, I'm reminding you to dress appropriately.  You don't have to wear tights and tennies, like I do.  But please dress for school for comfort, or bring clothes to change into.  Pants (no skirts) and comfy shoes (no high heels or boots) (or flip flops) (half my classmates in Boulder wore them all winter, so I feel the need to remind you youths not to make idiotic footwear choices too).  Wearing layers is smart because the auditorium is freezing but dancing will warm you up.  I recommend water bottles too.  This goes for every dance rehearsal.

Second, I'm here to give you a taste of the dance.  As you know, each song in Dreamcoat is done in a different style.  To help you understand the inspiration I will be posting a video for each piece I choreograph.  I'm not asking you to learn any steps or additional music from the videos.  Just watch a bit of them so you know what attitude to expect the next day.

Benjamin Calypso is an easy and light Caribbean island style number.  I'm going to teach it to the entire cast.  This early in production it's hard to know who will be backstage doing a costume change or whatever, so you all get to learn it.  It's simple and short anyway.  Here is some traditional island music and dance:

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!  It will be fun!
