Song of the Pharaoh
Well, I'm still working it out. But I wanted to share your inspirational videos for Friday.
We will be doing the Song of the Pharaoh and its Reprise. The first time it's a simple rock n' roll dance. The puppets show us the dream, Pharaoh is hamming up his singing, and the remainder are doing classic 50s dance moves. Sort of like these dances only much, much calmer.
From Grease, skip to 2:35
From Hairspray (about a minute in it gets going)
(Yikes. I inadvertently gave you a young and old Travolta.)
On the Reprise, we ditch the puppet show and go "Full Vegas." We will use the stairs and roll out a Nile river. The cows and corn are showgirls and the rest of you will have fabulous headdresses.
Finding a good Las Vegas showgirl with her top on was difficult (please don't try). Here's my best attempt to piece together videos of what we are doing.
The original showgirls, the Gold Diggers, with Ginger Rogers singing.
From The Producers, here's a parody that's more in our direction. Of course not in bikinis. And missing the gorgeous John Barrowman. Takes 45 seconds to get going.
But don't forget we're doing Elvis here, so add a little of this:
Hoo boy. We'll see how this goes.

One More Angel - Hoedown
Tomorrow y'all get to learn the hootin, hollerin' hoedown! I tried to keep it simple for you, but this is one of the trickier numbers. There's a lot going on, a lot of motion and energy. Those of you who haven't gotten a chance to strut down front will get your turn tomorrow, as there are several featured parts. I need everyone for the full rehearsal EXCEPT Joseph, Jacob, and Narrators.
What's a hoedown? Oh, a little polka step from this at 1:25
And a little footwork like at 8:00
Mix with some knee slapping like at 2:30
And you got yourself a hoedown!

Dance Rehearsal: Dreamer Has to Go
Barring sick kids (Jack has a cough) and bad weather (so far the forecast is good) I get to come up Thursday for another fun-filled dance rehearsal! This time I'll be working with the Brothers on "The Dreamer Has to Go." This is the second half of the "Joseph's Dreams" section, starting about 1:29 into to the track on my recording. To be perfectly clear, I need in my rehearsal:
Bob Fosse himself in an uncredited cameo, dancing with his muse in Damn Yankees.
From Kiss Me Kate, starting at 2:34 (although the whole thing is fun)
This number is a bit different in style, but I can't resist a chance to share it with you. Brilliant choreography. How keen is that ankle pronation sequence? Love it.
